Community grants
Who can apply
Farnham’s community grants are available to any not-for-profit organisation. The grants are for one-off projects or schemes that require funding for up to three years.
Grant criteria
You will need to demonstrate how the project will promote the environment and/or community life for residents who live in Farnham and the town’s villages. See the Community grants policy and guidelines before you complete an application.
Grant limit
Grants of up to £2,000 can be applied for once a year.
What can be funded
We will consider applications for:
- youth facilities
- cultural and arts schemes
- heritage projects
- leisure, sport and play facilities
- community buildings
- village halls
- community transport
- projects that support older people and/or people with a disability, and
- sustainable community environmental projects
When to apply
The next grant round opens in October and the deadline is 7 December 2020.

To apply you will need to complete an application form.
How applications are assessed
Members of the Strategy and Finance Working Group consider all applications in early January. Their recommendations go before Full Council in February/March when the final decisions are made.
When are grant cheques paid
Grants are sent in April/May.

South Street Trust grants
Who can apply
Farnham organisations who wish to apply for a funding for an art-based educational activity.
Grant criteria
- projects must have a creative input.
- Projects outside the Farnham area may be considered depending on how many beneficiaries are from the Farnham area.
- Performing arts such as drama, music and dance are not eligible for a grant. If there is a creative connection to a performing arts project, then funding may be considered.
Grant limit
There is no limit.
Successful applications
We award around 25 grants a year. In previous years this has included:
- a clay exploration class for children aged three to 11 at Farnham Pottery
- the commissioning of some artists to work with children in 12 local schools
When to apply
October 2020 – Grant round opens
4 January 2021 – Deadline for submitting grant application
March – Applications are considered
April/May – Grant cheques are paid

How applications are assessed
Farnham Town Council is trustee of the fund. Members of the Council assess the applications and award grants to those that meet the criteria.
About the South Street Trust
The South Street Trust was set up following the sale of the Farnham School of Science and Art in 1986/87. The school was established by local philanthropists James and John Knight in 1880 for the ‘instruction of children and adults in drawing, painting, modelling, designing for architecture, manufacture and decoration and for no other purpose’.
Proceeds from the sale of the school were invested and the income of around £20,000 per annum is used to provide annual grants for art-based activities.

High Sheriff Youth Awards
Who can apply
Schemes where young people normally aged between 9 and 18 are actively involved in planning and delivery in Surrey.
Grant limit
£100-£2,000
What can be funded
Projects that help reduce or prevent crime.
How applications are assessed
If your project ticks these boxes there is a good chance it will receive an award, new or existing.
- shows young people how to prevent or reduce crime
- makes everyone whatever their age feel safer in your local area
- gives young people places to go and things to do, wherever you live

Isabella Schroder Trust
Who can apply
You can apply for the Isabella Schroder Trust if you live in Wrecclesham, your family is in need or if you are involved with an organisation that benefits the village.
What can be funded
Grants are considered for individuals who are in financial hardship. A grant can be used to buy basic items of furniture or carpets, or to pay for a child’s school trip. Local organisations are also eligible and can receive a grant to start up or to expand their activities. To be considered for a grant, individuals/families must already be receiving all available state benefits. Each request from an individual or family normally needs a reference eg from a doctor, a home-school link worker, a social worker, a solicitor, the CAB or a member of the clergy.
